About Jon
i’m Jon Sharples a UK-based cycling coach with 20+ years of experience helping riders improve performance with training that’s clear, specific, and built for real life.
Over the years I’ve had the privilege of coaching thousands of cyclists from juniors and first-time racers to high-performing amateurs and elite-level athletes. I’m not here to drown you in jargon or pretend coaching is only for people already at the top. My job is to understand where you are now, identify the gap to your goal, and build a plan that closes it step by step.
High performance standards. Human coaching.
You’ll get serious structure and honest feedback, delivered in a down-to-earth way that makes you feel supported, understood, and confident in what you’re doing.

My coaching approach
Great coaching doesn’t need to be complicated it needs to be correct.
My approach is built on fundamentals that don’t change:
• Clarity: you always know what matters this week and why
• Specificity: sessions match your event demands, not random “good workouts”
• Consistency: repeatable training beats heroic weeks
• Progression: the right load at the right time to keep you improving
• Execution: pacing, recovery, and event prep so fitness turns into results
I’ll help you cut through the noise, train with purpose, and keep progress moving even when life gets busy.
Coaching that feels personal (and stays professional)
One of my strengths is working with all types of people and making coaching feel straightforward and enjoyable. Clients often say it feels like having a coach who’s in their corner and a relationship they can trust: friendly, honest, and supportive without losing standards.
You won’t feel like a number or a template. I’ll get to know how you respond, what motivates you, and what you can realistically execute then I’ll hold you accountable to the right things.
Serious coaching. Friendly relationship. Better results.
Who I coach
I coach riders who want to improve regardless of starting point.
This includes:
• Ambitious amateurs and racers chasing breakthrough performance
• Busy professionals who want clarity, structure, and confidence in the plan
• Developing juniors building long-term potential
• Riders stepping up a level and needing a smarter, more specific approach
• Road, TT and endurance cyclists who want to perform under pressure
If you want the best coaching you can get at any level we’ll get on well.
What working together looks like
• A structured training plan built around your goals, schedule and training history
• Regular adjustments based on response (fatigue, stress, racing, travel)
• Clear feedback on key sessions so you know what to repeat and what to change
• Practical support for pacing, tapering and event execution when it matters
The aim is simple: make you faster sustainably and make performance feel predictable.
