The Jon Sharples Talent ID Scholarship
Giving back to the future of british cycling: Trainsharp
Each season, TrainSharp founder and performance coach Jon Sharples will personally select one male and one female second-year junior rider to receive a fully sponsored development scholarship – a chance to experience professional-level support, equipment, and coaching for an entire season.
This initiative is about more than power numbers. It is about discovering the most dedicated, coachable, and committed young riders who are ready to take the next step in their cycling journey.
Who should apply
This scholarship is designed for second-year junior riders (male and female) racing in the UK who have:
• A genuine passion for cycling and racing
• A strong work ethic and a willingness to learn
• A consistent approach to training, whether coached or self-directed
• Ambition to progress into the U23 ranks and continue improving year on year
It’s not just about results – Jon is looking for riders who train smart, show discipline, and love the process.
Whether you’re racing at national level or working hard within your region, if you’ve shown commitment, progression, and potential, you should apply.
What the scholarship includes
Each selected rider will receive:
• A Roman bike and Laminar wheels
• An SRM power meter and Core body sensor
• A season-long TrainSharp coaching package with Jon
• Full lab testing and performance profiling
• Career guidance and U23 team placement support for the following season

Click below to complete the Talent ID Application Form and share your TrainingPeaks account so Jon can review your training history, progression, and goals.
Step 2: Review & shortlist
Jon personally reviews each application, analysing training data and background, and may invite shortlisted riders for a short one-to-one chat to understand their mindset, commitment, and motivation.
Step 3: Everyone benefits
Every applicant will receive something of real value:
• A complimentary TrainSharp lab test or performance assessment
• Personalised feedback from Jon based on your training data
• Exclusive discounts on Roman bikes, Laminar wheels, and TrainSharp coaching packages
Even if you’re not one of the scholarship winners, you’ll leave the process with professional insight, actionable feedback, and a clearer path for development.
A message from Jon
“Cycling has given me everything, and I’ve always believed that real talent shouldn’t be held back by circumstances.
This scholarship is my way of giving something back to help two young riders, one male and one female, experience what it’s like to be treated like a professional.
Beyond the scholarship year, I’ll personally help each winner take the next step and connect them with a suitable U23 team, so they can continue to progress on their journey.”
